The Alice Springs Airport Airside Lighting Upgrades project aimed to upgrade the legacy airfield lighting systems at the airport. The key objectives of the project were to implement current technology, ensure reliability, and achieve compliance with MoS139 standards.
The project involved upgrading various components of the airside lighting system at Alice Springs Airport. Specific upgrades included the following:
Replacing the outdated T-VASIS system with double-sided, double-ended Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI's).
Updating the Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) to ensure efficient and reliable power distribution.
Upgrading the High-Intensity Approach Lighting (HIAL) system for improved visibility during approach.
Updating the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) control system to incorporate modern Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) logic boards and touchscreen controls.
Throughout the project, Civiltech Solutions fostered collaboration by:
Taking a proactive approach to ensuring the project was completed within budget and to a high standard.
Applying their expertise in integrating current technology and meeting industry standards.
Coordinating efforts with other stakeholders involved in the project to maintain effective communication and collaboration.
The project team encountered several challenges that required careful consideration and problem-solving. These challenges included the need to transition from legacy systems to meet current standards, ensuring reliability and redundancy, and incorporating metric standards as per MoS139 requirements. Maintaining compatibility with existing circuits posed an additional complexity. However, through our expertise and collaboration, we were able to devise effective solutions to overcome these challenges and successfully complete the project to a high standard.

These solutions comprised:
Upgrading the legacy airfield lighting systems to meet current MoS139 standards, ensuring compliance and improved functionality.
Installing double-sided, double-ended Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI's) in place of the outdated T-VASIS system, providing pilots with more accurate and reliable guidance during approach.
Modernizing the Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) control system by incorporating Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) logic boards and touchscreen controls, enabling more efficient and user-friendly operation.
Conducting upgrades and reconfigurations of Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) and High-Intensity Approach Lighting (HIAL) to enhance reliability and achieve redundancy in the airside lighting system.
Through the implementation of these solutions, we were able to overcome the challenges faced and successfully complete the project to a high standard. Our expertise in integrating current technology and meeting industry standards played a crucial role in ensuring the success of the upgrades.
The Alice Springs Airport Airside Lighting Upgrades project was successfully completed, achieving the objective of upgrading the airside lighting system to current standards.
The project not only ensured compliance with MoS139 requirements but also improved reliability and redundancy.
Civiltech Solutions played a pivotal role in fostering collaboration, delivering the project to a high standard, and contributing their expertise in integrating current technology.
